The Superior and the General House

The Institute of the Good Shepherd is a society of apostolic life. Its moderator is the Superior General, surrounded by his General Council. The General House is located in Courtalain, in the diocese of Chartres, right next to the Institute's seminary.

Superior General

Rev. Fr. Luis Gabriel Barrero

Fr. Barrero was born December 5, 1966 in Bogotá, Colombia. At the end of his priestly formation at the Seminary of Our Lady Co-Redemptrix in La Reja, Argentina, he was ordained a priest on December 14, 1997. Within the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X, he exercised his ministry in various pastoral responsibilities in Chile.

From the year 2000 until 2014, he worked as vicar, and then as pastor, in the diocese of San Bernardo, in Chile, near the capital Santiago. In 2014 he joined the Institute of the Good Shepherd. He now resides in the Institute house in Bogotá, Colombia.

He was elected the Institute's second Superior General on August 28, 2019.

Founder and Superior General Emeritus

Rev. Fr. Philippe Laguérie

Fr. Laguérie was born September 30, 1952 in Sceaux, France. He was ordained a priest of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre on June 29, 1979. He was in charge of the Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet church, in the center of Paris, for 14 years. He moved to Bordeaux in 1998, where he restored the Church of Saint-Eloi with the agreement of city government. The church, in the city center at the foot of the Grosse Cloche, had been abandoned for twenty years.

Chosen as the first Superior General of the Institute of the Good Shepherd at its foundation (September 8, 2006), he was also appointed pastor of the personal parish of Saint-Eloi, erected by degree of Cardinal Ricard, archbishop of Bordeaux, on February 1, 2007. He left this pastorship in September 2009 in order to devote himself completely to his office as Superior General of the growing Institute. He was re-elected to a second six-year term on August 31, 2013.
